We Built a Blue Stone Walkway in West Bloomfield.

We created a lovely Blue Stone Walkway for a repeat customer. But there’s more to it…

In September we sent out hand-written thank you cards. We thanked our customers for trusting us to do landscaping and hardscaping services. We do this every year to show our appreciation for their support. It’s how we remind them that we care. Now, our customers recieved our cards at different times. Some got them 2 days later, others 2 weeks later. Most responded to us with simple thank-you texts. But the response we got from Laura, it was really special.

One Stable Foundation

She told us something personal. Her husband suffers from Parkinson’s disease. His stability weakened and he needed a leveled surface to walk on during the slippery winter. Inches of snow were expected to come shortly. Without adding a stable walkway, it could be nearly impossible for her husband to leave the house if it snowed. There wouldn’t be any sturdy place for him to walk.

The walkway they had would not work. At all. It was hidden under a mound of dirt and covered by overgrown grass. There was no way it could serve its purpose. It actually made it harder for anyone to reach the driveway. We agreed it didn’t make getting around the house any easier, so we planned to rid of it.

Building Foundation for Bluestone Walkway

Welcome, Bluestone Pavers

Building a durable walkway was super important during this install. We wanted Laura’s husband to have confidence in his new walkway. The ground had to be leveled, almost perfectly. Any irregularities could create an issue, so we built with close attention to the details. The best way for us make it perfect was to rebuild the whole foundation. We talked, pondered and then picked Bluestone.

Flagstone

We decided to use Irregular Bluestone, also known as Flagstone. These stones come in many shapes and sizes and are known for being water-resistant. Essentially they’re non-slip stones so we are confident that we made the right selection for this family.

Now, these Pavers aren’t the most economical option, but they are beautiful. You never have to sacrifice both beauty and stability with stones. There is always an option for you. At $3,500, installing this walkway was very fairly priced. Our estimates are based on square footage. We estimate equipment, labor and overhead–this is how we calculate quotes. Another West Bloomfield contractor quoted it at $4550, but his design didn’t appeal to Laura. We know bluestone walkways. These classy pavers add grey, earthy tones to her front porch—and are durable enough for the entire family to walk on. Their visitors, family, and even the mailmen will be impressed.

Simple to Setup

The Brick Paver Installation is a process. Each step is critical and cannot be overlooked. Now, Mother Nature ran her course throughout the duration of this install. We faced rain, snow and cold temperatures. We finished just in time to beat the winter.

Here’s how we installed this Bluestone Patio in West Bloomfield:

  • We dug 7“ deep to build a new foundation
  • Installed 3″ of 2A Gravel Rocks for drainage
  • Added 3″ of Brown Construction Sand
  • Compacted the new base
  • Leveled, laid stone, and grouted.
