Hello and thank you for coming back to another blog. In this blog, we talk about an amazing landscaping project we installed in Walled Lake. This is hands-down one of our favorite projects. Our landscape design here is just plain old special!
This project all began with a recommendation from a local shoe shop. Authentic Kickz is a shoe store located in West Bloomfield Michigan and they recommended us to their network of friends for this project.
We designed for the homeowner a two-tier space one lower space that has an outdoor kitchen and hot tub area, and an upper space with space for sitting with family around the firepit. Let’s get into it.
2D & 3D Landscape Design
The landscape designs we created helped our homeowners visualize their space before it was built. We gave edits to the design to make it more fitting and increase their confidence that they invested in a backyard they loved! As you know all of our projects begin with 2-D and 3-D landscape designs so you can dream and feel what we’re going to install at your home.
Patios
We started the project by working on the lower patio. This is a spacious area that looks larger than life with the Unilock XL pavers. The XL pavers are great for covering lots of space in a backyard like this. Can you tell how big they are? They give a very different aesthetic than your average mixed-pattern patio. Here’s a picture that explains it. No one is going to come to your home and say they have a patio like yours!
Halfway through the installation of the retaining wall, we added in a black accent course to break up all of the gray colors that we had in the backyard stones. The homeowners love the idea and it adds an entirely new taste to their backyard because we continue the same black stripe in the pillars and the outdoor kitchen.

U-Cara Outdoor Kitchen
Take a seat at this 14-foot outdoor kitchen that has an upper area for eating and bar seating in a lower area specifically for grilling. The grill is Napoleon Prestige Pro and we purchased Napoleon accessories – – an access panel/drawer combination and a double trashcan. Throw your trash away after eating outside and leave those utensils outside too! This is perfect for anyone who loves to grill!

A Grand Entrance
For our steps, we combined a 4ft Rosetta stone step with the black charcoal Holland premier that we used for our border. I love the herringbone pattern that we designed inside of the landing of each step. I’d say this made the steps a statement and more than just a bunch of gray rosetta stone stairs cascading up to the driveway. A grand entrance is going to make a first impression on anyone who decides to make their way down into this outdoor living space!

Hot Tub Time
For the hot tub area, we got creative as well. We styled a carpet per se for the Hot Tub to sit on top of. Look at the Mattone and Holland premier pavers. The bigger and smaller rectangles allusion pops under the hot tub and that is super cool. The hot tub sits to the left of the main patio and the design separates it from the rest of the patio too. This was our first time utilizing three inlays on one project and it looks sweet! I’m jealous this isn’t my backyard.
Landscaping, landscaping, landscaping
The landscaping is designed for a person who’s low maintenance. Next to the staircase, we planted grasses and I believe I gave it a calming feel walking into the outdoor living space. We have hardy coral bells, a lower-maintenance plant.
Behind the outdoor kitchen, you can see spruce trees, arborvitaes, grasses, boxwoods, and black mulch to finish the look. We also have some small boxwoods inside the planter beds at the end of the firepit patio. I like the plants a lot because they break up all of the hardscapes and add nature to your stonework. We also have the tricolor beech tree in the corner near the AC and coral bells under it help amplify the red and pink colorways that are going on in that area,
