How Odd Jobs Won at Our 1st Business Expo

It wasn’t easy, but it was well worth it. On October 27th, we participated in our first Business Expo in West Bloomfield, Michigan at Shir Shalom Temple.

We planned. We organized. And, in the end, we succeeded. For weeks prior to the event, we brainstormed to create eye-catching designs for the banners and flyers. Here’s a photo of our flyers!

They’re pretty snazzy, right? We wanted anyone to be able to pick up our flyer and to know who we are and what services we offer. Throughout the event, we recieved compliments on the flyers, so it’s safe to say we created a good design.

Now we’ll explain how we won…

The event was in no way a competition. But as first-timers, we felt as if we won. We brought high energy and enthusiasm that was infectious. To us, it seemed as if the other vendors were less enthused. Maybe because it was Sunday? Who knows. Nonetheless, we smiled and greeted each person that walked in front of our table and took a genuine interest in their needs and desires. At one point we had 6 people at our table!

Sadly every person we interacted with was not in need of Landscaping services, but they were looking for meaningful interactions. And, that’s exactly what we gave them. That’s where we won! Even if the people we spoke to didn’t need our services, we did them a service by treating them as if they would. Actively listening, asking questions, and making suggests all took place in those short 5-minute conversations, and we know our genuine care in those moments will live on far beyond that day.
