Sod is The Secret To West Bloomfield’s Greenest Lawns

It’s true. A lush, green lawn is quite the sight to see. And, having the greenest lawn on your street is a good feeling. Installing Sod guarantees you’ll have an awesome lawn.

Now, there are many ways to get the best lawn. Some chose to seed their lawns, while others prefer the more effective solution–Sod.

Get the Greenest Lawn in 24 Hours

The benefits of using Sod outweigh the benefits of seeding a lawn.  If you don’t know what Sod is, I’ll explain. Sod, also known as turf, is a grass that has already been planted. It’s that simple. It’s healthier and longer than other grasses and has a fuller appearance.

The biggest benefit of sod is its transformational ability. In less than one day you can transform your average, brownish lawn into a stunning deep green, lawn. In under 24 hours, your front yard can become full and green. If you’re having a hard time believing it, just look at these photos.

What you’ll find in West Bloomfield

In West Bloomfield, Michigan you will typically find two types of sod for sale. Kentucky bluegrass and turf-type tall Fescue.

Kentucky Bluegrass thrives in the sun and because it’s a creeping grass it can fill its own bare spots. Fescue is more tolerant of shade but doesn’t have the capability to fill its own bare spots. We suggest buying seed along with this type of Sod to make repairs as needed.

Say No to Seeds

The hardest part about trying to seed a lawn is understanding which type of seed is best for your climate. All grass is not equal. Some grow well in warm conditions, others grow better in colder conditions. If you don’t have the knowledge to know which grass is best for your lawn you will fail–this is why we recommend Sod. Nothing is worse than a burnt or patchy lawn. It’s a pain to come home to every day.

Early Spring for Sod

Timing makes all the difference. The biggest factor in your Sod thriving is the time you choose to plant it. Early Spring is the best time. The cooler temperatures will allow for the roots to connect with the soil. Whereas in the summer, the direct heat will dry out the sod and cause the roots to die.

Maintaining Sod

Once your Sod is installed, take care of it. That means watering it very frequently. There is a possibility that you could drown your side–so be aware of overwatering your Sod. We recommend watering it once to twice per day to ensure that it’s growing in a healthy manner.

    1. In dense shaded areas I recommend using Fine Fescue grass–it’s a species of grass that thrives in areas that lack sunlight. I suggest looking into a Fine Fescue Sod, it’ll be the perfect fix for you. It grows in narrow blades. For areas that have poor soil I always recommend tilling the area–its a process of turning the soil to refreshen it. Turning the soil plus adding an organic topsoil and looking into a Fine Fescue should be your next steps of actions to get the healthy lawn that you’d like to have.
